Type 2 Diabetes - The Signs and Symptoms!

AstroVigHnesh US(425) 358-6565 & Ind: 9445548316 (Both Wat'sapp)

There are 21 million people in the world who have been diagnosed with diabetes, but there are still around 8.1 million people who have the disease and don’t know about it (27.8% of people with diabetes are undiagnosed). Symptoms of this disease vary from person to person, but, like with most diseases, the earlier you catch it, the better off you will be.
Therefore, it is definitely worth getting to know, and keeping an eye out, for the symptoms of diabetes.
• You are above the age of 45
• You have already been diagnosed with pre-diabetes
• You are overweight or inactive
• You are African American, a native of Alaska, American Indian, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, or Pacific Islander American, and are experiencing atypical symptoms.
Common Symptoms of Diabetes
If you’re experiencing any of the below, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Excessive Urination (Polyuria)
Polyuria is an increase in the frequency of urination. When you have abnormally high levels of sugar in your blood, your kidneys draw in water from your tissues in order to dilute the sugar, so your body can expel it in the urine. The cells are also pumping water into the bloodstream to flush out the sugar, and the kidneys are not able to reabsorb this fluid during filtering, resulting in excessive urination.
To meet the clinical definition of polyuria, an adult’s urine output must be more than 2.5 liters per day (normal urine output is 1.5 liters).
As it’s near enough impossible for you to measure this yourself, if you notice that you’re visiting the bathroom more times than usual, consult your doctor.
Excessive Thirst (Polydipsia)
This usually goes hand-in-hand with excessive urination. As your body pulls water from tissues to dilute your blood and to dispose of the sugar through urination, the urge to drink increases. Many people describe this thirst as an unquenchable one. To stay hydrated, you drink excessive amounts of fluids – if these fluids contain simple sugars, your blood sugar levels will increase dramatically.
Extreme Fatigue
Your body is like a vehicle – it needs fuel to run. Its main source of fuel is glucose (sugar), which is gained from foods that contain carbohydrates that can be broken down. Insulin, a hormone created by the pancreas, takes sugar from your blood to your cells to use for energy. However, if you have diabetes, either your pancreas isn’t producing enough insulin or the insulin that your body is making isn’t being used properly, typically because the cells have become resistant to it. This ultimately results in your cells being deprived of sugar, or fuel. The result will be tiredness and extreme fatigue.
Cuts and Bruises That are Slow to Heal
When the blood is full of sugar, nerves and circulation can be affected. Adequate circulation is needed to heal as poor circulation makes it hard for blood to reach affected areas, slowing down the healing process. If you notice that you have a cut or bruise that is slow to disappear, this could be a sign of high blood sugars.
Excessive Hunger (Polyphasia)
This goes hand-in-hand with cell starvation and fatigue. As the cells are resistant to the body’s insulin, glucose remains in the blood. The cells are then unable to gain access to glucose, which will trigger hunger hormones to tell the brain that you’re hungry. Excessive eating can complicate things by causing blood sugars to increase.
Neuropathy
Numbness and tingling in the extremities is known as neuropathy. This is usually a symptom that occurs gradually over time as excess sugar damages the nerves. Keeping blood sugars within normal range can help prevent further damage and reduce the symptoms.
Blurry Vision
Blurred vision can be a result of elevated blood sugar levels. Similarly, fluid that is pulled from the cells into the bloodstream to dilute the sugar can also be pulled from the lenses of your eyes. When the lens becomes dry, the eye cannot focus, resulting in blurry vision. Therefore, it’s important that all people diagnosed with type 3 diabetes have a dilated eye exam shortly after diagnosis.
Less Common Symptoms of Diabetes
The following symptoms are not experienced by everyone with diabetes, but they can signal the disease, and are worth looking out for.
• Weight loss
• Erectile dysfunction
• Dry, itchy skin
• Frequent infections, such as yeast infections in women
• Irritability
• Dry mouth
How is Diabetes Diagnosed
The same tests used to screen and diagnose diabetes are used to detect individuals with pre-diabetes. There are a few ways you can be diagnosed. Your doctor can carry out a number of blood tests, depending on whether or not you have any symptoms. Whether you are at a high or low risk for diabetes, your physician will use the same tests:
• Random glucose test (if you’re symptomatic)
• Fasting glucose test (a test done when you haven’t eaten for 8 hours)
• Two-hour glucose tolerance test
• Hemoglobin a1c test (a three-month average of your blood sugar)
Sometimes people don’t experience symptoms of diabetes and the diagnosis is made not because the doctor suspects the disease, but as a result of a routine check-up.
For someone who does not have any symptoms to be considered to have type 2 diabetes, they must:
• Have a fasting blood sugar (no food eaten for 8 hours) greater than or equal to 126 mg/dL
• Have a blood sugar of 200mg/dL after 2 hours during a glucose tolerance test using 75g glucose solution.
• Have a hemoglobin A1c of 6.5% or higher.
If You’ve Recently Been Diagnosed with Diabetes
If you have just been diagnosed with diabetes, it’s normal to feel a bit scared, confused, and overwhelmed. There are so many myths floating about regarding diabetes, which can make it more difficult to cope with. Try not to listen to things that other people have to say, such as, you can never eat carbohydrates again. Instead, educate yourself.
Talk with your doctor about connecting with certified diabetes educators and receiving diabetes self—management education. Learning all about what to eat, what your medication does, and how to test your blood sugar levels are just some of the things these resources can help you with. Educators can also dispel myths, create meal plans for you, coordinate other doctor appointments for you, and listen to all your needs. They have been trained to teach using a patient-centered approach.
If You’ve Been Living with Diabetes for a While
We give you special kudos for managing your condition as it’s not always that simple. If you’ve had diabetes for a long time, it’s normal to feel burnt out sometimes. You may get tired of your day-to-day tasks, such as counting carbs, or measuring your blood sugar. If this is the case, lean on a loved one for some support, or talk to someone else who has diabetes.
If you find that you’re a little bit rusty and could do with a refreshers course in nutrition or anything else diabetes-related, you should consider signing up for a diabetes conversation map class. These classes are a good way to re-learn key components of diabetes in a group setting. If you have adequate knowledge and are looking for ways to make life easier, check out some apps, fitness trackers, or nutrition resources that can help you stay active and cook healthy meals. Keeping up this good work is worth it, as it can help prevent further complications.
If, on the other hand, you have started to develop complications or your medication regimen has changed because your blood sugar levels are getting higher, you should remember that diabetes is a progressive disease – and sometimes these things just happen without you being able to do anything about it. As you get older, beta cells in the pancreas tire and stop working. If you have had diabetes for 20 years and now need to start insulin, for example, it doesn’t mean that you have failed. It just means that your body needs some extra help. Make sure you continue to educate yourself, and that you continue to have someone to lean on when you need it, and keep communicating with your doctor. All this can truly make a world of difference!

Expert tips on how you can reverse rheumatoid arthritis naturally.

If you have been suffering from RA for a long time, here is how a diet and exercise regimen can change your life!

RA-naturally
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an extremely painful condition that can be quite often debilitating. But despite what you might know about the disease, living a life with the condition is definitely possible — with the right kind of diet and exercise. Nutritional therapist, says that he has devised a unique method for people with RA. He says that with his regimen people can reverse their condition and lead a healthy life.  Here are excerpts from the interview.
What is rheumatoid arthritis? How does it affect people?
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an immune disorder, where your immune system works against you. Unlike other forms of arthritis, RA is  caused by age and lack of adequate calcium. Basically,  RA is your immune system’s response to things going wrong within your body. The smaller joints get affected first, then larger ones and slowly the organs of the body also get affected. It is not very uncommon for RA patients to develop heart and other organ related diseases as their immune system works towards destroying their bodily functions. Read more about rheumatoid arthritis – causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
How did you come upon the use of nutrition and yoga to heal RA?
When I was diagnosed with RA, my rheumatologist started me on immuno-suppressants, steroids and methotrexate (a drug commonly used in chemotherapy). I was given a steroid injection on my elbow, since it had bent and would deteriorate beyond repair if no action was taken. I had to wait for three months for the immune drugs to start acting, and three months later I started to feel the effect.  For seven months, I regularly took the medicines along with folic acid and glucosamine supplements to negate the side effects of the strong drugs I was taking and to build my joints.
After a while of feeling good, I noticed that my hair had started falling. I tried everything possible to get back my lost hair, but to no avail. Nothing worked. When I asked my immunologist, he told me it was a side effect of the drugs I was taking. I had to choose between balding and being able to walk. Here’s what you should know about the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
The 14-day RA treatment:
When I was left with making a decision between going bald or being able to walk is when I decided to go off my medication. Instead, I signed up for a 14-day RA treatment at a well-known Ayurvedic outlet. For seven days, they used special herbs for Abhyangam. The next seven days, they used potli – a technique where you pound the joints with a small bundle full of herbs dipped in heated oil. It was painful but I actually began to feel a little better.
Pranayama: Despite all this I was still in a lot of pain and couldn’t even walk, so I turned to yoga and pranayama. I found breathing exercises boring, and did the minimum amount required. Miraculously, 15 days after I started my breathing routine, I began to feel better. Within six months of all the combinations, I was almost pain free.
I continued practicing half an hour of pranayama, five days a week, and got the potli therapy done once a month. I modified my diet and included nuts, fruits and green vegetables, which help in controlling inflammation.  I then added raw garlic, green tea and fish oil supplements (these foods also have anti-inflammatory components).  The process was slow and took me a year to recover. But after a year, when I did my blood tests, it showed that all my markers for RA were negative. The negative results continued month after month. That is when I decided to get certified in nutritional therapy at the Oxford school for Nutritional Therapy. My aim was to treat patients with chronic lifestyle diseases. Today my method of reversing RA is a combination of my specialty as a health expert and my experience in healing different kinds of RA patients.
How does nutrition affect the condition and reverse it?
One of the major underlying causes of RA is an accumulation of nutritional deficiencies. Since RA is primarily an immune system disorder, if the immune system is strengthened with the help of nutrition, the symptoms of RA reduce drastically.  You may also like to read about these 6 natural remedies for arthritis you should try.
What veggies or foods should a person with RA specifically include into their diet on a daily basis?
Generally speaking, raw foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds should form 60 to70 per cent of their diet. They should also switch to green tea instead of their regular tea and coffee. Most importantly they should eliminate foods like sugar, white flour, processed meats and cold drinks from their diets. These foods are extremely dangerous for patients with RA as they only aggravate the process of inflammation and destruction of their body’s defence mechanism.  How does yoga help in reversing RA?
Yoga and pranayama are great for people with RA.  The pain and stiffness that they feel is often excruciating and causes their joints to freeze making it difficult for them to move. Therefore, a combination of yoga and pranayama helps reduce these symptoms considerably. While, yoga keeps their joints supple and flexible, pranayama helps in the efficient release of toxins from the body, thereby reducing pain. Alcohol is known for its ill effects on the body, can a person with RA have them?
A person with RA should have only red wine. Red wine is anti inflammatory agent that helps relieve the inflammation and the resveratrol in it  helps reduce the pain that one experiences when they are suffering from RA. That being said, a patient should make sure that he/she does not drink more than 2 goblets (150 ml per goblet) 3 to 4 times a week. (Read: 7 ways red wine is great for your health)
Is the kind of nutrition and exercise prescribed different for different body types?
Yes, it is highly personalised. When I meet a patient, I chart out a plan for him/her depending on their gender, age, blood reports, family history and personal history.
What is the general schedule that a person with RA will have to follow?
RA is an auto immune disorder and medical science and doctors say there is no real reason why RA strikes. However, in my practice, I have found the following reasons to be leading up to and cause RA.
    A compromised immune system
High levels of toxins in the body
A stressful event approximately 2 to 4 years before the onset of RA
    A sensitive nature
A shoulder/spine related problem 1 to 3 years prior to advent of RA
All the above lead to inflammation inside the body, and the only way to reduce inflammation is to attack it with an anti inflammatory lifestyle. Hence, treatment cannot be restricted only to diet or one form of science. Read more about exercising with arthritis — 5 things you must know before you start.
Some people think only Ayurveda treatment can cure RA but it’s not true. If you have RA, a specialised plan on the basis of your age, gender, blood reports and temperament is developed, that combats inflammation inside the body. This includes some anti inflammatory agents, mild yoga to keep the joints supple, pranayama to release toxins and stress, supplements to fulfil the nutritional deficiencies that caused the compromised immune system, long periods of rest and sleep as fatigue is very high, and an Ayurvedic massage schedule for 14 days to repair joint damage.  Consistently attacking RA and not letting go for 3 months at a stretch reverses it, reducing the inflammation and the pain.
